Dataminers Reveal Future Plans for XDefiant
In a series of posts made on social media by dataminers, the immediate future of XDefiant was outlined - but bear in mind that it's still subject to change. In recent days, a slew of dataminers published imagery online revealing what factions are coming soon to XDefiant, Ubisoft's brand-new first-person shooter, and what weapons will help flesh out the upcoming seasons. In a series of images uncovered by MP1ST, it was discovered by dataminers that the second season of XDefiant will introduce Far Cry New Dawn's Highwayman faction. Per the claims, this faction will run an on-theme turret system as an ability - but nothing more is known at present.
Further, it was claimed that the weapons for season two will be the PP19 (SMG), SPAS (shotgun), and an unnamed LMG. Days ago, the game's first season was released, introducing Rainbow Six Siege's GSK as a playable faction and bringing in the LVOA-C assault rifle, L115 sniper, and the Sawed-off Shotgun. The dataminers went a little further than just season two, though. In a few shots posted online, we were given a rough look at what's sketched out for further down the road. It was suggested that season three will introduce a new DMR, the M1A, and the FAMAS.
It might be a misprint by dataminers, as the M1A, in some cases, is a DMR. While season two focuses on the Highwayman faction (per the claims), the third season of the game will pivot to look at Assassin's Creed - which was always inevitable for XDefiant. Down the road, we'll see Ghost Recon become the sole focus of season four, and the earliest reports suggest that season five will be based around Rabbids. It's all on the table - Ubisoft recently said that every game could be considered as an XDefiant faction in some way. The free-to-play shooter was released earlier this year. An executive producer of XDefiant has said that it's okay for players to move on if they can't put up with ongoing in-game bugs. Speaking on social media, Mark Rubin explained that Xdefiant is built on an MMO engine, and as such there have been teething problems as the free-to-play shooter has been released to the public.
Responding on X to a user who said he felt the game had been rushed, Rubin said: 'What we have is an engine that has only ever been an MMO. And so all of the infrastructure for an FPS has had to be built up from the ground floor. 'Even CoD started on ID tech which was a shooter engine. Apex started on a shooter engine. But for us we are working on developing all new tech in an engine that was designed for something else.' Rubin continued: 'The engine is really great but it does require a lot of work and with that work comes a lot of bugs that other engines have already worked out.
'We're not a shooter that's been out for 20 years. If you like what we are trying to do stick around and you'll see things improve and new features get added. But if the game isn't for you that's ok you can move on.' VGC's review of the free-to-play shooter called it 'much more than knock-off Call of Duty.' We sometimes publish affiliate links on VGC. XDefiant Season 1 is out now. The free-to-play, fast-paced arena shooter's first full season includes a host of new updates (in addition to free pre-season updates like the inclusion of the Team Deathmatch game mode) for all players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Ubisoft Connect. Read on to learn more about the five major updates coming this season. New GS Kommando Faction Inspired by R6, the GS Kommando faction brings added protection, area control, and area defense to XDefiant. GS Kommando's passive trait (along with their snazzy helmets) gives them immunity from the headshot multiplier, meaning that even a direct headshot from a TAC-50 sniper rifle won't be enough to down them on full health.
Players can choose between an Active Defense System (ADS) or Shock Wire for their activated ability. The former nullifies all enemy throwables within its range, while the latter can be laid down to slow and damage enemies caught within it. GS Kommando's Ultra sees them pull out the G52 Tactical Shield, providing defense and the ability to blind nearby opponents with a devastating flash. Ranked Playlists Season 1 introduces Ranked play to XDefiant. Unlike the Unranked Playlist, Ranked features skill-based matchmaking and allows you to fight it out against opponents of your same skill level.
Win, and your rank will increase; lose, and it will decrease, but individual performance is taken into account. Being the top scorer on the losing team will mean you're penalized less for a loss, and likewise, being the lowest scorer on the winning team means you won't get as much credit as the match MVP. At the end of the season, you'll earn unique rewards based on your rank. New Game Modes At the start of Season 1, players will have access to the new Capture the Flag game mode in Unranked Playlists (Ranked Capture the Flag will be introduced at a later date). Later in the season, XDefiant will introduce Bomb, a new one-life mode where one team attempts to plant a bomb while the other tries to deny/defuse it.
New Weapons Three new weapons are making their way into XDefiant in Season 1. The LVOA-C is a new assault rifle that features better handling and a faster fire rate than the M4A1, but at the expense of a shorter range and increased recoil. The L115 sniper rifle acts as a middle ground between the fast-but-weaker M44 and the slow and powerful TAC-50. Finally, the sawed-off shotgun is a new secondary weapon that gives players a deadly close-quarters weapon with limited shots. New Maps Three new maps are coming to XDefiant in Season 1.
The new Clubhouse map is available now, with its own dedicated Playlist so you can get familiar with it quickly. Inspired by the R6 map of the same name, Clubhouse features a familiar indoor layout with expanded outdoor areas that will be new territory for even the most seasoned R6 players. Later in the season, two more new maps - Daytona and Rockefeller - will launch as well. If you haven't jumped into XDefiant yet, Season 1 is the perfect time.
