Hurricane Beryl Devastates Southeast Caribbean and Heads Towards Mexico
Hurricane Beryl has already brought devastation to parts of the southeast Caribbean and is now raking Jamaica's southern coast. Forecasters are confident the record-breaking storm will next strike Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. But the more difficult question is what happens to Beryl after that. Fishermen in Barbados on Wednesday were assessing the damage caused to their vessels after Hurricane Beryl swept through the southeast Caribbean.
According to the fishermen, all the boats at the Bridgetown marina suffered some degree of damage, while a few entirely sank under big waves that washed over the docks. Hurricane Beryl strengthened to Category 5 status late Monday after it ripped doors, windows and roofs off homes across the southeastern Caribbean with devastating winds and storm surge fueled by the Atlantic's record warmth. Hurricane Beryl was roaring by Jamaica, bringing fierce winds and heavy rain after the powerful Category 4 storm earlier killed at least six people and caused significant damage in the southeast Caribbean.
