Delta Flight Diverts to JFK Due to Spoiled Food
An Amsterdam-bound Delta flight with nearly 300 people aboard had to divert to JFK Airport early Wednesday after it was discovered that some of the in-flight meal service had been spoiled, the airline said. Flight crews on the Airbus A330 consulted with medical experts, who recommended the diversion to Queens. Delta flight 136 landed safely there at 4 a.m. Passengers reported that the spoiled food, believed to be chicken, caused discomfort and illness among some travelers.
Passengers were provided with hotel accommodations and rebooked on alternative flights. Delta Airlines issued an apology for the incident, stating that it was not reflective of their usual service standards. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the safe diversion and reported that several passengers had fallen ill. The Port Authority evaluated 24 individuals upon landing, all of whom declined hospital transport. This incident marks another disruption on the Amsterdam-Detroit route, following a previous incident involving maggots falling from an overhead bin earlier this year.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the food spoilage and prevent future occurrences.
